Why I believe the Bible

The Word Of G-d Is Truth

First we must agree and understand that the Bible is truth.

The Bible is a reliable historical document, written down by eye witnesses, during the lifetime of other eye witnesses, they report to us supernatural events, that took place in fulfillment of specific prophesies, and claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin. (Voddie Baucham)

Next we will go over the above statement.  

Witnesses 

2 Peter 1:16              For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our L-rd Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.  NASU

1 John 1:1-4             What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word of Life —  2 and the life was manifested, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to us —  3 what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ. 4 These things we write, so that our joy may be made complete.   NASU

Supernatural Events

1 Cor 15:3-8             3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; 7 then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also.  NASU

Documentation

There are about 6,000 early translations on record. Translated into: Syriac. Coptic. Latin (Corroboration in Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic).  If someone changed the Word they would have needed to collect all 6,000 copies, make changes that could not be discovered and then return them without being detected.

Scientific Method:              You do not use the scientific on historical events.  To test anything by the scientific process it must be observable, measurable and repeatable.

G-d said this is My beloved Son

2 Peter 1:17-18                    17 For when He received honor and glory from G-d the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, "This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased" —  18 and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.  NASU

Friday dead Sunday risen.  Witnessed by many.

Psalms 22:6, 12, 15, 16,   My G-d My G-d why have You forsaken me.

The prophetic Word made more sure.

2 Peter 1:20-21                    20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, 21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from G-d.  NASU

Eye witnesses tell the same story.  Friday dead Sunday risen.

2 Tim 3:14-17                       14 You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them,  15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by G-d (G-d breather) and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of G-d may be adequate, equipped for every good work.  NASU

Jer 15:16 KJV                      16 Thy Words were found, and I did eat them; and thy Word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by Thy name, O L-rd G-d of hosts.

How important is the Bible?

Ps 119:103-104 KJV          How sweet are thy Words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!  Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.

Psalm 119:54-55 NLT        Your principles have been the music of my life throughout the years of my pilgrimage. I reflect at night on who you are, O L-rd, and I obey your law because of this.

Ps 119:11-12 NASU           Your Word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You.  Blessed are You, O LORD; Teach me Your statutes.

Ps 119:105 NASU               Your Word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.

Ps 119:148 NASU               My eyes anticipate the night watches, That I may meditate on Your Word.

The testimony of presidents

The Bible was clearly important to many American presidents. A few examples:

It is impossible to govern the world without G-d and the Bible.

George Washington

The whole inspiration of our civilization springs from the teachings of Christ and the lessons of the prophets. To read the Bible for these fundamentals is a necessity of American life.

In regard to this great book, I have but to say, it is the best gift G-d has given to man. All the good Savior gave to the world was communicated through this book. But for it we could not know right from wrong. All things most desirable for man's welfare, here and hereafter, are to found portrayed in it.

Ulysses S. Grant

Phil 3:7-9  NKJV                               But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. 8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ.

Colossians 1:9-12  NASU               For this reason also, since the day we heard of it,  we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the L-rd, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of G-d; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light. 

Colossians 3:15-17  NASU             Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to G-d. Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to G-d the Father.
